Verso

Verso sets oversized display type on a strict asymmetric grid, divides sections

with hairlines rather than boxes, and uses a single accent colour. It looks like

a publication, not a template.

Built on the block editor, not on a page builder

There is nothing to install alongside it. The editor that ships with WordPress

is the page builder, and Verso adds four blocks of its own, written in React:

• Hero — an oversized headline on an asymmetric split, with a meta line and

an offset image that takes a duotone

• Marquee — a line of phrases that scrolls slowly and stops when the reader

points at it

• Ruled List — a numbered list divided by hairlines
• Figures — a row of large numbers separated by rules

They are edited in the canvas like any core block and rendered on the server, so

changing the theme later never breaks the pages you already built.

Five pages ready to insert

Home, About, Services, Contact and a Journal index — each a whole page rather

than a fragment. Insert one, change the words, publish.

Typography without a download

Headlines are set in a serif and reading copy in the system sans, so there are

no webfont requests, no layout shift and nothing to consent to. Every face,

colour and size is a setting in Appearance → Styles.

Duotone

Three presets — Ink on paper, Ink and accent, Wash — so a photograph joins the

palette rather than fighting it. They work on your own pictures too, from the

image block's toolbar.

Nothing to build

The compiled blocks and stylesheet are in the download, so the theme installs on

ordinary shared hosting with no build step. The React sources are included as

well, so you can rebuild it if you want to.

Photographs are not included. Add your own and apply a duotone to match.
